The wiring bench

A student who has read about a pull-down resistor and one who has removed one and watched an input float are not in the same position, and only one of them will diagnose it on a Tuesday. These run in a browser, so the second position is reachable from a laptop on a bus.

A passing simulation is not a proof. There is no heat here, no smell, no dry joint, and no cable that has been walked on for six weeks. This is where you find out whether the idea is right. The bench is where you find out whether the thing is, and that is why the bench blocks are still most of every class.
